13th July 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you are all keeping well as we reach the end of a school year like no other. Staff in school have been very busy these past few weeks preparing for the return of all pupils in September. As I wrote in the newsletter there have been some staffing changes for the new academic year; I would also finally like to let you know that we will be saying goodbye to Ms Curran this year. She leaves us to move on to new adventures and we send our very best wishes and thank her for her years of dedication to St Anthony’s both as a teacher and more recently as head of school. I am sure you will join us in wishing her the best of luck.
Even though this year was cut short we still have so much to celebrate, and the children should feel very proud of themselves and everything they have achieved. Please remember pupils return to school on Wednesday 9th September. New starters may start on a slightly different date but will have been informed of this by Mr Barwick.
There will be many changes in school when pupils return in September. We are putting significant measures in place to limit the risk of COVID-19, however, as I’m sure you will understand, will cannot eliminate all risk. Below is some guidance to help you and your child prepare for September:
*Year 1 and Foundation Stage (including nursery) pupils will enter school through the car park gate. There will be floor markings to help with social distancing and a member of staff will be there to greet the children.
*Year 1 will need to arrive between 8.40am-8.45am.
*Foundation Stage will need to arrive between 8.50am-8.55am.
*Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 will enter school through the side gate of the large playground.
*Parents dropping off must walk down the path and leave their child at the drop off point and exit using the one-way system. Floor markings will be used to support social distancing. Pupils must then make their way to their class fire door. Staff will be on hand to support with this.
*Year 5 and Year 6 must arrive between 8.35am-8.45am
*Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 must arrive between 8.45am-8.50am.
*Class teachers will be at the door to welcome the children in.
-Some flexibility for will be given for parents dropping children at more than one entrance.
*Strict hygiene measures and additional cleaning will take place throughout the day. Including regular handwashing.
*Distancing with older pupils will be encouraged but not expected
*Children will, wherever possible, stay within their own class
*Should there be mixing of pupils from different classes social distancing will be followed
*Pupils will use stationery assigned to them or equipment that is regularly cleaned
*A hot school grab bag will be avaliable for pupils staying dinners or they can bring a packed lunch if preferred
*Some older pupils may eat in their classroom to limit contact with others
*School lunches will be charged in the usual way for those who pay for dinners
*We ask that only those who truly need breakfast club attend. This will include pupils of parents needing to get to working early or support for free school meal families
*Places must be booked the week before using an online tool sent via a school text
*Breakfast club will start at 7.50am. We will not accept pupils who turn up without booking
*Pupils will be in class groups
*Table tennis will not be on during breakfast club
*In the first few weeks our curriculum will focus on the wellbeing of all pupils and on creative catch up work
*Playtimes will be staggered, and pupils will remain with their own class
*Pupils can bring into school their own water bottle. Please make sure water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name
*We must limit belongings brought into school from home. Only a bookbag, coat and PE kit, in a draw string or plastic bag will be needed
End of the school day
*Foundation Stage will need collecting from school at 2.50pm from the same door as they entered
*Year 1 will need collecting at 3.00pm from the same door as they entered
Parents of Foundation and Year 1 must follow the social distancing floor markings when waiting to collect pupils and follow the one-way system
*Year 2 will need collecting at 3.00pm
*Year 3 & Year 4 will need collecting at 2.55pm
*Year 5 & Year 6 will need collecting at 2.50pm or given permission to walk home
*Parents collecting pupils in Y2,Y3,Y4, Y5 and Y6 must collect from class fire doors and follow the floor markings and follow social distancing
-Some flexibility will be given for parents collecting children at more than one entrance.
*Please ensure pupils are dropped off and picked up at the correct time. This will help us to reduce the number of people on site at one time
*After leaving or collecting pupils please leave the site swiftly and avoid gathering in groups
*Parents must not enter the school building unless requested to do so by school staff. Contacting school staff should be done over the telephone and meetings should be by phone unless extreme circumstances apply
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your continued support and wish you all a very safe and happy summer.
